Setting a Routine

by Jaime
(Manassas, VA, USA)

I think the things that get my diet off track most often are changing my routine and not being prepared. If I go to work every day as planned with my packed lunch and snacks, it is relatively easy for me to stay on track. If my husband and I don’t get to the grocery store as planned, I will end up eating out for every meal and I have a very hard time making good choices when I eat out. Also, if there is an unexpected birthday or party at work with things like cake, pizza, etc. then I have a very hard time avoiding those. I am a lot more successful at sticking to my exercise plan because I set my alarm for 5:40 AM every day and the only purpose is to get up and do a workout DVD. It’s harder to keep myself on track with food because it’s hard to keep the same routine every day. The key for me is to plan ahead and focus on consistency.
