Ripe, not mushy
Choose fruits that are plump and firm, with a slight give. You may soften them more in a paper bag at room temperature for a day or two.
Discard any that are mushy or have broken skins.
Always wash your fruit before eating. You may bite the flesh off (watch out for drips!), or slice it after removing the pit.
This fruit is cooked into puddings, cakes, pastries, pies, poached for dessert, used as garnish or as appetizers with goat cheese and walnuts, in cereal, fruit salads, jams, jellies, chutneys, salsas, and smoothies.
Too many go a long way
Just remember, plums are made into prunes which are known for their gentle laxative effects. Too many plums can also act as a laxative.
