Brown fat white fat, and your weight are intricately tied together.
The white form of fat cells act as large sluggish lipid storage containers. These are the ones that seem to fill up easily and can be the last ones to slim down when you’ve lost weight.
The brown form of fat cells are small and active, producing heat and physical energy. They are the cells that can help you burn extra calories to lose weight fast.
For many decades, scientists thought that brown fat disappeared after childhood. Now PET scans have shown substantial brown fat in adults.
But how can you shift your brown fat white fat metabolism so that you stimulate the active fat-burning brown fat cells?
One animal study found that daily green tea stimulated brown adipose tissue to burn calories through increased thermogenesis even while on a diet containing large amounts of fat.
Animals fed a high fat diet combined with daily green tea increased the protein content of their brown adipose tissue which increased thermogenesis and prevented an increase in body fat (Choo JJ, Green tea reduces body fat accretion caused by high-fat diet in rats through beta-adrenoceptor activation of thermogenesis in brown adipose tissue, J Nutr Biochem, November 2003). This is considered a preliminary study and has not been thoroughly researched with human beings.
